Training & inspiring the next generation of Performing Artists
The West Covina High School Performing Arts Academy prepares a diverse community of aspiring artists to be successful in their future college and professional careers. Our philosophy is to train the whole performer by developing an understanding and skill set of the four major performing arts pillars (Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Theatre, and Dance) alongside an in-depth study of their chosen concentration. We believe our students should experience rigorous academics as well as the communal activities of a comprehensive high school while being able to hone their artistic craft. We aim to cultivate the next generation of well-rounded artists that will shape the future of the performing arts industry.

“The Performing Arts Academy (PAA) has provided an opportunity for our daughter to be involved in a comprehensive public high school setting yet have the experiences that a smaller conservatory type school would provide. The degree of professionalism expected of their students is high when the students are enrolled in the PAA. The fact that the students have proficiency performance exams and are exposed to private lessons and resources at local universities is phenomenal because typically a performing arts student does not get those opportunities in a full-size high school. It has been thrilling to watch the growth of our daughter from a very small school and see that she can be comfortable even though West Covina High School is a rather large school. The level of expectation set forth by the different teachers in the various areas of performing arts ensures that the students will be successful in their endeavors they pursue. The guidance provided by each of the teachers is remarkable even through virtual learning and we look forward to seeing that connection between teacher and student grow when we are able to return back in person. We are excited to continue to support the Performing Arts Academy throughout the four years that our daughter is enrolled and for many years to come as residents of West Covina.”

“The love I feel for the WCHS Performing Arts Academy and its members is astounding. It all started with that one introductory meeting where my love for music evolved into a devotion to challenge my vocal, instrumental, theatrical, and dancing abilities. Countless and unforgettable memories have been made with my Academy mates and teachers, including bonding and gaining knowledge in UCLA workshops, private voice lessons, and cohort meetings. Our directors have not only provided us with materials, lessons, and assistance, but they’ve also given us so much care. They are always making sure we are doing well with check up meetings and reminders to take care of ourselves and to persevere. This Academy has and will continue to make me a well rounded, better performer. I can undoubtedly say that auditioning for this Academy was one of the best decisions of my life.”

“Being in the PAA has been an extremely rewarding experience. Especially in these times, the program not only allowed me to make close friends but also gave me so many opportunities to learn about the world of performing arts, which seemed impossible through a screen. I’m glad to be in this program and can’t wait for my next three years in it.”
